Have you ever eaten a flower stem or petal? Well some you can. In fact over history, people have turned to plant life for food and medicine. In our premiere story we learned some Desert Dandelions are used for teas. Dandelion roots can be harvested and dried out and then used to make hot tea. You can even purchase dandelion root tea. Some people like to use dandelion petals on salads or make soup out of their leaves. Be creative and let us know how you use these lovely backyard beauties. Here’s one recipe we tried. We made a colorful Dandelion greens and pomegranate salad.
You can add in any veggies you would like. We sometimes toss in some sliced red beets! Remember to add in the Dandelion Greens. You can get them in your yard or local farmers market or grocery store. Because the salad lettuces can be a little bitter to taste add a yummy sweet dressing like a balsamic glaze or a raspberry vinaigrette! Sprinkle your Dandelion petals in any design you’d like!

You can also bake your Dandelion Greens and Petals into bread or crust to make fun designs! And don’t forget those Desert Dandelions harvested for Dandelion Tea. We love it hot with slices of lemon.
